What is Orthopaedic Ward 3?

Orthopaedic Ward 3 is a 21 bedded mixed orthopaedic ward that deals with acute orthopaedic conditions. Patients are admitted to this ward from the Emergency Department and also as direct admissions for treatment.

Admissions to the ward are on alternate day basis in conjunction with Orthopaedic 1.

Meal times

Patients have the opportunity of ordering their lunch and dinner from an established menu. A staff member will go around the patients in the morning so the order is taken. The food that will be ordered will be for the next day.

  • Breakfast: 7.30am to 8am
  • Lunch: 11.30am to 12.30pm
  • Dinner: 5.30pm to 6.30pm

Visiting times

Official visiting times are Monday to Sunday (including public holidays):

  • 11:30 to 13:00 (2 visitors at any one time)
  • 15:00 to 20:00 (2 visitors at any one time)

Special permits for visiting outside the established visiting hours may be given to relatives on the discretion of the Charge Nurse.

Being a surgical ward where surgical and traumatic wounds are ever present, visitors are encouraged to avoid overcrowding and also apply alcohol hand rub before and after contact with patient and / or belongings​. This is to prevent cross infection.
