Where is Obstetrics Ward 1?

What is Obstetrics Ward 1?

Obstetrics Ward 1 is a 24 bedded female ward that caters for mothers who are going to give birth, either by an elective caesarean section or a medical induction. This ward also cares for mothers and their babies following the delivery. We also cater for pregnant mothers needing investigations.

Meal times

Mothers have the opportunity of ordering their lunch and dinner from an established menu. A staff member will go around the patients in the morning so the order is taken. The food that will be ordered will be for the day after.

  • Breakfast: 7.30am to 8am
  • Lunch: 11.30am to 12.30pm
  • Dinner: 5.30pm to 6.30pm

Visiting times

Monday to Sunday (including public holidays):

  • Partner of an antenatal mother may visit from 10.00 till 20.00

  • Partner of a Postnatal mother may visit from 10.00 till 07.00

  • Visiting hours of other visitors from 16.00 till 19.00 (Visiting is restricted to only two visitors and husband. Children are allowed and considered as one of the visitors.

We are also offering open visiting hours to the partners post delivery. They can stay near the mother to help bonding and support the mother but at 7am they have to leave ward premises and return to ward at 10:00 am.

On admission the couple are given a copy of a set of rules while a signed copy is put in the mother’s file.

Only birth partners are allowed and they need to have a swab result not older than 72 hours to be admitted in ward. Ideally couple should swab together to have a concurrent –ve result.

Special permits for visiting outside the established visiting hours may be given to birth partners on the discretion of the Charge Midwife.
