Fairyland is located on the first floor of the green block.
What is Fairyland?
Fairyland is a 20 bedded children’s ward that admits children who are Covid Positive; in quarantine; children exhibiting Covid symptoms and have their results pending. This ward is a mixture of medical, surgical, new born babies, ENT, orthopaedic and anyone who is swabbed and awaiting results.
Meal times
Parents and / or children have the opportunity of ordering lunch and dinner from an established menu. A staff member will go around the parents and / or children in the morning so the order is taken. The food that will be ordered will be for the next day. Besides the standard patient menus, this ward also has children menus. Parents are advised to bring their children’s cutlery and tumblers/bottles.
Breakfast: 7:30am to 8:00am
Lunch: 11:30am to 12:30pm
Dinner: 5:30pm to 6:30pm
Entertainment and Education
There is a play area on the ward equipped with a selection of toys. It is advisable to ask the nurses whether your child may be taken there.
The services of a qualified teacher are available during school hours so that children on long stay do not fall behind with their studies whilst in hospital.
Visiting Hours
One parent/guardian can stay with their child 24/7
Both parents/guardians can stay from 8:00am to 8:00pm
Relatives (children not included) may visit daily between 3:45pm & 5:30pm
Sundays/Public Holidays relatives and children may visit from 10am – 11am
Visitors should not enter the ward if they are sick.
Visitors are encouraged to disinfect their hands, using the alcohol rub provided near the ward entrance upon arrival at the ward and before leaving.
Visitors are to consult with the doctor or nurse before bringing any food or drinks to the patients.
Visitors are encouraged not to stay too long near patients, and no more than 3 visitors should stay near each patient at any time. Too many visitors at any one time may exhaust the patient being visited and disturb other patients close by.
Visitors may be asked to leave the ward if the patient being visited or another patient in the same room requires medical or nursing intervention or examination.
Children below the age of 16 are allowed to visit during the allocated visiting hours as long as they are accompanied by an adult.
Certain restrictions may apply, including limited visiting restrictions and thus visitors are kindly solicited to always follow instructions given by ward staff.
Bed Policy
Children under 3 years are to sleep in cots and not in beds.
A pillow may be given to a healthy child who is more than 1 year.
Bumpers may also be placed in a cot as long as the child is more than 1 year old.
